Collecting as Method: A Civilizational Archive of Cognitive
Structure Since 1976, Zeng Li has traversed hundreds of Miao villages with her father, collecting and studying masterworks of Miao embroidery with a systematic lens. What began as an act of cultural rescue evolved into the construction of a cognitive framework and aesthetic logic for Miao embroidery—an archive of symbolic intelligence.
Her collection spans dozens of techniques, hundreds of glyphic configurations, and rare material innovations. It is not merely heritage—it is the visual crystallization of ethnic cognition. Grounded in her "Pattern Genome" theory, this living archive has become the curatorial mother code for global exhibitions, artistic collaborations, and civilizational dialogue.
自1976年起,曾丽随父深入苗岭深山,走访数百个苗寨,以系统性的眼光搜集、整理并研究苗绣绝品。从最初的“抢救性保护”,到后来构建出一整套关于苗绣的认知框架与审美逻辑,她所建立的珍稀藏品体系,已成为苗绣视觉文明的重要基因库。
这些藏品涵盖数十种工艺技法、数百类符形组合与材料形态,是族群思想的视觉沉淀,更是当代表达的图像源代码。基于她提出的“图源工程”理论,这批藏品不只是历史见证,更是全球巡展、艺术合作与文明对话的策展母本。
